This project involved the structural design of a single-storey new build on a steep site. Our responsibilities included designing the block wall, timber pole foundations, and subfloor bracing to ensure the structure’s stability on challenging terrain. Additionally, we managed construction monitoring (CM) to ensure the design was implemented correctly and adhered to the client’s requirements.

KEY CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS:
▪️The steep site and high elevation at the front of the house presented significant challenges, including a stiffness discrepancy between the front and back bracing systems. To address this, we modelled the foundation bracing, analysing the relationship between the block walls, timber bracing, and the diaphragm. This ensured the structural system would perform cohesively during seismic events. Adding complexity, the client’s strict budget demanded innovative, cost-effective solutions without compromising safety or quality.

▪️ To address possible coordination challenges on-site, we implemented a policy of scheduling inspections even without the builders present when necessary. By maintaining professionalism and clear communication, we ensured the project stayed on track.
