Timber Pole Retaining Wall Replacement

● Overview
An existing timber retaining wall behind the house had partially failed, with visible movement and deterioration. DTCE was engaged to design a new replacement wall approximately 500 mm in front of the existing structure.
● Issue
The existing wall could no longer be relied on for long-term support and needed to be replaced without disturbing the house and surrounding ground more than necessary.
● Solution
DTCE carried out near-surface soil testing to confirm the ground conditions and designed a new timber pole retaining wall with poles embedded into the weathered greywacke below.
The new wall was designed as the primary retaining structure, allowing the existing wall to remain in place but become structurally redundant. A new balustrade was also designed along the top of the wall for edge protection.
● Result
The new wall provides a stable, independent retaining solution with integrated edge protection, while avoiding the need to fully remove the existing failed wall.
