Don Thomson is the original director of DTCE, having established the practice in 1987. Don received his education and grounding in Dunedin before attending the University of Canterbury.
He has more than 45 years' experience having designed several thousand residential, commercial and public projects including the Basin Reserve grandstand.
BE, DBA, CPEng, CMEngNZ, IntPE
Alasdair has 17 years of experience working in different project scales, from sheds in rural New Zealand to international projects based out of London. Alasdair’s structural design work has included bespoke architecturally-driven houses, industrial buildings, and medium-rise towers.
Alasdair is particularly interested in peer reviews and the role of expert witness, and has undertaken desktop calculations and intrusive studies in the pursuit of value engineering, remedial design, and the preparation of briefs of evidence.

Originally from the southwest of China, Lee has been with DTCE for 8 years. Lee has a strong academic focus, leading the office in the use of the most recent analysis and design approaches, including performance and displacement based seismic design. He is a key engineer for commercial development, seismic assessment and strengthening.
Lee has a passion for snow sports, and regularly joins on staff snowboard/skiing trips.
James has over 10 years’ experience in the design of residential, low rise commercial and industrial buildings. He also has extensive experience remediating water-damaged buildings and enjoys working closely with builders to develop practical solutions.
Following the Canterbury earthquakes James was involved with assessing land damage on behalf of the EQC.
Adam started at DTCE in 2016 and has worked extensively on new residential construction and on building investigations.
He is an avid sports fan, regularly attending rugby games at the stadium. In his free time, Adam enjoys socialising with friends and family and isn’t shy of a bit of DIY around the house.
Natalja is one of our more recent employees. She specialises in drafting, structural engineering, and also helps with non-technical administration of our systems.
Kerry has been with DTCE for 10 years and has been involved in customer service all her working life. She has a strong administrative focus, developing effective business connections between the engineers and the client.
She enjoys photography, and often take staff photos at work and play.
Marlo Bromley is a our second Director and a charted professional engineer (CPEng). He is involved in all aspects of project workflow for the company.
Marlo grew up in Taupo, studied at Canterbury and has been working on all sizes and types of structures in the for several years now. He is committed to ensuring client satisfaction and ensures the team perform to the highest standard.
Kyrilos was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he ran his own consultancy for many years. Since joining our team in 2012, he has become our expert in assessing and retrofitting brick structures using a wide variety of techniques..
Kyrilos can provide cost effective solutions for complicated projects and brings decades of experience to all alterations he carries out
Kyle has been with DTCE for over 9 years, and is one of our resident civil engineering experts.He has recently been involved with a number of large seismic assessments and retrofits, and was heavily involved with the reporting and assessing of multiple structures in the Wellington region after the 2016 Kaikoura Earthquake
Originally from Vietnam, Henry has been with DTCE since 2016. Henry has played a pivotal role in reporting on damaged structures after the Kaikoura Earthquake, working with insurance assessors, the EQC, and clients to determine the extent of seismic design and efficient and effective remedial work
Josh joined us in early 2016. Josh has keen eye for detail and a perfectionist streak, which he uses to help spearheaded improvements in our standards and systems
He is a keen basketball & netball player who also enjoys snow & skateboarding on the weekends.
Bignesh has 15 years structural and architectural design and drafting experience working on a wide range of projects throughout New Zealand and Fiji.
He is passionate about ensuring high levels of structural and architectural integration throughout his work. He has successfully completed commercial and residential projects with a creative and collaborative approach to working with architects and other project consultants.

Joining our practice in 2016, Romy has been the driving force behind a lot of the changes and improvements to the company over the last couple of years.
He also helps manage projects, our website, and provide any design advice for marketing material released by the company
