Clear predictable engineering costs
Most clients come to ask asking the same thing:
"How much should I budget for engineering?"
Here's a straightforward table breakdown to help you plan confidently. Note, these are indicative only, and to get a more accurate price, contact us to organise a quote.
For most residential projects, structural engineering costs 1-5% of the total construction cots. That includes design, documentation, and construction monitoring

For a $1,000,000 build = $10,000-$50,000 in engineering
Our Standard Hourly Rates
Some projects involve both fixed-fee work (design, documentation) and hourly-rate work (mainly construction monitoring, variations, or additional services requested during the build).
To keep things fair and transparent, we publish our current standard hourly rates here.
These rates apply to any hourly services carried out at the time they are performed.
If you have a signed fee proposal from an earlier date, these rates may differ from the ones listed in your agreement.
In that case, hourly-rate tasks, such as construction monitoring, are charged at the current rates published here.
All rates exclude GST

Every project is different, but four things influence price more than anything else
Complexity of structure
Bigger spans, extra floors, unusual shapes, or major alterations require more detailed design work
Your site conditions
Steep slopes, wind zones, earthquake demands, or tricky ground can influence both structural and geotechnical design costs
Quality and clarity of existing information
Older homes, missing drawings, or unknown details often need extra investigation before we can design safely and accurately
Amount of documentation and monitoring required
Simple renovations need less design and oversight; larger or more complex builds require higher detail, and more frequent site visits

Engineering shaped around your project, not the other way around.
1. Clear explanations
We make engineering understandable. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for and why it matters — no black-box pricing or confusing jargon.
2. Buildable, cost efficient designs
Our designs work on site, reduce variations, and help keep construction costs under control. Builders appreciate our details, and clients appreciate fewer surprises.
3. Fast consistent delivery
With Wellington engineers supported by our Manila office, we keep projects moving — even during busy periods. More capacity means fewer delays for your build.
