DTCE was engaged to design a new mezzanine floor within an existing single-storey portal frame building constructed in the 1960s, while strengthening the structure to achieve approximately 70–80% of the New Building Standard (NBS).

The project involved introducing a suspended mezzanine across the building footprint, supported by new beams and steel framing integrated with the existing structure. Once complete, the building effectively operates as a two-storey structure, requiring careful coordination between the new floor system and the original portal frame.

Our scope also included designing new beams, lintels, and structural connections as required for alterations to the front and rear elevations.
