Kenepuru Sound, South Island

2024年

Nestled deep within the picturesque yet remote Kenepuru Sound in New Zealand's South Island, our team at DTCE Structural Engineers faced a unique challenge: a construction site with no road access—requiring a 35-minute walk from the nearest road—and no jetty for boat deliveries.
For this project, even getting materials on-site was a challenge—so much so that the builder had to construct a helicopter landing pad just to bring in supplies. Knowing this, our team had to consider this during our design to limit the amount of materials that needed to be shipped in.

🔹 Instead of augured concrete piles, which would require a lot more concrete—something that also gets delivered via helicopter—we utilized ground anchors and micropiles to limit the amount of concrete required.
🔹 Every design choice had to consider logistics, efficiency, and sustainability, ensuring the structure could be built with minimal disruption to the remote landscape.
